A week or so back someone posted their "All coaches team" for our last few football coaches.

Here are my picks for our last four hoops coaches.

C M Newton

PG Anthony Murray (over Ray Odums and Robert Scott)

SG T R Dunn (no one lese in this era was close to him)

SF Ricky Brown (over Chales Cleveland and Ken Johnson. Out of college Ricky turned down the NBA and played for the Globetrotters. Can you imagine anyone doing that today?

PF Reginald King over Wendel Hudson in a close one. Wendel was the man who put Alabama basketball on the map.

C Leon Douglas, Bama's best shot blocker ever.

It is no coincidence that theis five played together as a unit and if they could have beaten Indiana would likely have won the NC.

Wimp Sandeson

PG Ennis Whatley - a tough choice considering that Gary Waites and Terry Conner also played during this period.

SG CMG over Mike Davis in a battle of the coaches.

SF Jim Farmer (I remember thinking when Wimp signed him out of a small private school in South Alabama that this was a wasted scholarship. That wasted scholarship ended up being a first round NBA pick.) Latrell Sprewell a very close second. Sprewell improved more from his junior year to his senior year than any player I've ever seen.

PF Robert Horry wins out in a tough choice over Eddie Phillips, who played like he thought all the rebounds and loose balls should belong to him. Michael Ansley also had a very nice career at Bama, as did Buck Johnson.

C Several good ones, but Derrick McKey stands out over David Benoit and Bobby Lee hurt.

David Hobbs

PG Anton Reese. During Hobbs tenure we never really had an outstanding point guard, but Reese was a battler.

WG James (Hollywood) Robinson was easily the best shooting guard to play for Hobbs.

SF Eric Washington had a silky smooth jump shot.

PF Jason Caffey was a brute in the low post. Too bad his personal life is a mess these days.

C Antonio McDyess was (and still is) a real warrior. Roy Rogers was a close second.

Mark Gottfried

PG Pettway was the heart and soul of his teams. he got the ball to who needed it, and took the shot if that was called for. Mo Williams was great. This time next year Ron Steele might be the one, but I am limiting myself to players who have completed their eligibility.

SG Ernest Shelton could really stroke the three, and developed some offense off the dribble as well.

SF Kennedy Winston had game. He was nagged by knee problems his whole time at Alabama but was a true offensive machine. Next choice, the explosive, but inconsistent Rod Grizzard

PF Another of my favorites, Erwin Dudley, by a nose over Chuck Davis. Nobody ever played any harder than ED.

C JeMareo Davidson improved every year at Bama. The personal tragedies he had his senior year kept us from seeing just how good he was, but the NBA knew.
