Hey guys,

I am traveling this weekend to DC for a conference and will be staying at the Grand Hyatt, which should be close to most of the attractions.

I really want to take in the Smithsonian and the usual landmarks.

Any tips or advice from those who have been there before?

Thanks!

Get a metro pass, very east to get around with them. If you are going to do the Smithsonian, allot a good bit of time for it, because it is made up of several buildings. A visit to Arlington National Cemetery is worth a visit too, IMO. You'll have to walk a little, but you can see the changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns, which is fascinating.

*Another heads up, don't try to sneak a pocket knife past the guards at the National Archives, especially on a day when the President is scheduled to stop by. Embarassed

Lol! Sounds like you are speaking from experience. Thanks for the tips. I do want to make a point and get by the new WWII Memorial as well.

They (the memorials) are all located right there in a line making them VERY easy to visit, but like most other places, it requires some nice walking.

If you've never seen it, definitely check out the Vietnam Memorial. You can't really grasp it until you've seen it person.

Arlington and the Vietnam Memorial are must sees. I also suggest a visit to George Washington's house on Mt. Vernon.
