I was reading some of his quotes last night, and it is pretty apparent that he's gone off the deep end.

Whenever you take anyone or anything out of your will, going off the deep end doesn't come close to explaining it. Laughing

Polk is a very frustrated old man right now. Any baseball coach at a non lottery state public school has to be right there with him. Probably why Wells quit last year.

Just a typical baseball manager's tantrum, that's all. Wink

Polk was interviewed on Nashville radio yesterday afternoon. It seemed like he's backed off of his comments a little, but he's still clearly pissed and feels like he deserved the right to pick his successor.

Which brings up an interesting question:
When (if ever) has a coach (in any sport) earned the the right to choose his successor?

Polk certainly feels like he had that right and apparently the new AD had a different idea.

Coach Bryant and Dean Smith. Very Happy

Exactly, Porter. I guess that's where I'm going with this. You named two good ones. Anyone else? Joe Pa? Bobby Bowden? Mike Krzyzewski? Pat Summit? It's an interesting topic I think.

Those were the first two to come to my mind, too. I'm sure there are others. Did Vince Dooley hand-pick his successor? How about Shug and Cholly Mac? Skip Bertman?

Btw, exCRP needed to hire Phillip Wellman to persuade the A.D. to act on Polk's recommendation. Heck, I bet Ron would love to throw his own rosin grenade.

It is something that happens on the HS level quite often.

I saw that last year. It was awesome! I would have loved to be in the stands when that happened.

That was your local AA team's coach Factor.
