Hello from Oklahoma City!
It has been an exciting trip thus far and we haven't even played a game yet. Or trip started out on Tuesday via charter plane (THANK YOU COACH MURPHY!), but the plane wasn't quite big enough to fit our luggage so we had to overnight the "less" important things like catcher's gear, helmets, the med kit - but thankfully it had all arrived by the time we woke up the next morning. My roommate Lauren Parker suffered a casualty in that her hearing aid batteries had died during the flight and the spare batteries were in the med kit! We teased her by moving our lips without saying anything but she hung in there until the next morning. In case you're wondering, we usually fly commercial from Birmingham so we absolutely LOVE to fly by charter plane!
Later that evening we went to opening ceremonies where Coach Habetz and Lacy got down to some good ole' country music courtesy of Luke Bryan. I am not generally a fan of country music but he was pretty entertaining and shook his stuff! They also announced the winner for the player of the year and Lowe's Award, both going to Miss Angela Tincher from Virginia Tech. What a year she has had! Thank you for everyone who voted for me for the Lowe's Award! I felt so overwhelmed with support - we have the greatest fans! Lastly was the fireworks show. I felt like it was the 4th of July!
The following day we had our ESPN interviews and practice. Trying to think of our "fun facts" was pretty difficult as a team. Whitney was pretty good at helping people out with theirs, but you'll have to watch the game tonight to find out what we said! ☺ Some of us are not quite actresses and it took several cuts to get it right. For instance, Ashley said she was a sophomore, Kelsi Dunne said the wrong hometown, Charlotte got a little nervous and I thought they would bring out cue cards for her. But all in all I think we did great and our SID Josh Maxson got us through them all in time for practice.
Practice went pretty well. It was hot here, but a different hot than Alabama. More of a dry heat but a few of us got sunburned. Good thing the booster club put sun block in our World Series bags! THANK YOU! SPF it up ladies!
We had our team meeting last night and had some great inspirational talks from Dr. Barbara Walker, who has been working with us on the mental aspects of the game and from Mr. Tommy Lasorda! Uncle Tom certainly knows how to fire us up and we wanted to play right then and there! Lauren's favorite advice from Uncle Tom was when he compared our game to a game of tug-of-war. If we all get on the same side and pull, we're going to win, but if some get on one side and the rest get on the other, we will only be pulling against ourselves without ever accomplishing anything. He said he would come on Monday when we make it to the championship round - we all can't wait to meet him.
We play #6 Arizona State tonight at 6pm (central time) on ESPN. Our current mood is excited and anxious. We're pulling together as a team to win the first game on our road to becoming the first national champions in SEC history! We are excited and we hope all of you are able to watch the game. We know you wish you could be there in person but we are so thankful to be on ESPN so those of us who can't be here can certainly watch.
ROLL TIDE from the land of tornadoes and cowboys,
Jordan
