We have commitments from two PG types for the upcoming class. Both are PG types, Reger Dowell and Cully Payne. Dowell committed right after the final four, but Payne surprised me. We had been not after Birmingham area 4 star point guard Eric Bledsoe, and the word in this area was that he liked Alabama and wanted to come.

Bledsoe had been at Hayes High School, and in the muddled world that is the Birmingham school system the decision was made to close Hayes. He was reportedly planning on doing his senior year at one of the area's private Christian schools. Then it is announced that Bledsoe will attend and play his senior year at Parker HS, which has been a proud name in Alabama HS basketball for a long time, as well as a well regarded school. Normally it is no big deal, but Parker's basketball coach is Maurice Ford, and he was in the thick of the recruitment of Walter Sharpe and his last second commitment to Mississippi State. There were all kinds of rumors flying about just how and why Sharpe ended up at Starkville, including a supposed payoff to coach Ford. Its not hard to read between these lines. Once Parker and Maurice Ford became a part of the picture for Bledsoe our staff decided to move in another direction, hence the commitment of Cully Payne.
