I am thinking about taking the big plunge later this fall on a new TV. We've had our 27" JVC tube TV for about 6 years now, and it's doing great, and I plan on keeping it. But, I am into the whole idea of HD tv viewing now, and watching movies in Blu-Ray since I bought a PS3.

I've been doing a bit of searching, and I know the size that I need, which would be no larger than 40, but no less than 37. So, all styles and varieties in the 37-40 inch range would work. Also, I think I want to step up to 1080p, but is there really that big of an improvement over 720p? I would like to have at least 2 HDMI ports, and maybe three if necessary. I would be plugging in DishNetwork receiever, a PS3, and a Nintendo Wii, which doesn't require HDMI if I'm correct.

So, any recommendations or thoughts?

I too am getting ready to take the big plunge myself.

Go ahead and plan on getting the 1080p. Most all electronic crap is outdated so quickly that you can't really ever keep up you just try and maintain....So go all out.

You absolutely want the HDMI inputs (2) if not (3). One other thing you might consider is the USB port which most all will have if you go this deep into the purchase. I have one on my Surround Sound DVD player and it is a great feature to have. I can plug my jumpdrive and and watch movies directly from the jump drive. They are not HD, but that really doesn't matter to me as in I'm too cheap to rent the crap anyway and I just download it from the internet, and put on the jump drive and watch it.

Like RJ said, just go ahead and get the 1080p models. The only things that are going to be shown in 1080p currently are your Bluray movies, but most of the good HD content will be 1080i. As far as brands, the best of the LCD's are Sony's and Samsung's. Other brands are good as well, but those 2 are the LCD Kings. Sony might have a slight edge with the XBR3 series, but both are great. Those higher end models also tend to have more HDMI inputs and such as some of the lower end models, though each year manufactures are learning that more is better as far as inputs.
