"The Dark Knight" became the highest single-day grossing movie in Hollywood history, collecting a staggering $66.4 million in its first 24 hours of release, Warner Bros. said Saturday.
The much-anticipated flick, co-starring the late Heath Ledger as a particularly psychotic Joker, soared past the old one-day mark of $59.8 million set last year by "Spider-Man 3."
"Ledger was wonderful," said Belkys Padilla, 42, after seeing the movie in Manhattan. "It was so action filled. Every part of the movie was great."

Yeah I saw that on CNN last night. It's going to break some more records it looks.

If you take anyone under 12 to see this movie make sure you talk about it. There is not much gore and as an adult you can over look the mental "trickery and gore" torture that the Joker invokes on Batman. Forcing personal decisions that would drive the average person insane.
Heath Ledgers cackle made the hair stand up on my arms and neck. He nailed it. Yes it is dark..if anyone has the Dark Knight series(comic) like I do you would know this world is dark and creepy. Movies are an excellent translation of the epic series.
Great movie.
I really hate it for Heath and his family. It does not matter how you die, because you can never come back. Had a friend that died from an overdose, not once did I question his love for his child. He had the habit before he had his child and did not get help. We all make mistakes and are not perfect. If we were...we would never have to ask forgiveness for our sins. Fruitless to guess what he was going through or what happened because none of us were there. I have had to deal with that ever since my friends death in 1996. Just my 2 cents.

When I was in Chicago last fall, they had just wrapped up most of the shooting, in Chicago anyway. I was on a boat tour, and the lady pointed out several buildings that they filmed in and around. I'm pretty sure she said one of these below was the "Gotham Police Dept" in the movie. I've yet to see the movie though, so I don't know how much you can tell...
I think it was this one...

That's pretty cool, Porter. If I had to guess, I would say that the building with the clock tower looks most familiar to me, but I am not sure. I am going to see the movie again tonight, and I will try to get a better look at the buildings. The bottom photo could possibly be the Gotham General Hospital, but again, I'm not sure.
The first time I saw the movie, I noticed one aerial view of the Chicago River, which I knew to be in Chicago because of the unmistakable blue-green water. Like this...

Nothing better than the green water on St. Patrick's Day in Chicago...
I think Heath Ledger gets an Oscar posthumously as the best actor for 2008.
Why not?
He delivered...

i went & saw the movie last night & loved it. it was kind of long & thought the parts without heath ledger kind of dragged but was a great movie. he should get an award for his beautiful daughter. he definitely deserves it. the movie wouldn't have been half as good without him, without a doubt!
