I finally made the switch to DirecTV yesterday. I still have to rely on Commicast for Internet service as I'm offered no other high-speed choices in my neighborhood, but rest assured, the day another option becomes available, I'll drop that as well.

So, do they charge extra for the internet only w/out cable?

Yes. But, if you drop down to limited basic cable and keep the Internet, you pay less than you would for only keeping Internet service. I think it saves 5 or 10 bucks a month for me, I forget which. I don't have any TV's hooked up to cable anymore, but it gives them less money to go that route, so that is what I chose.

I think you'll be happy with DirecTV, Porter. I've had it for three years and never regretted switching from Comcast.

I hope so. For some reason, the Braves vs Phillies was blacked out last night in my area though (on ESPN), and I was not too pleased with that. I don't live very close to Philly...

...because it was also being shown on SportsSouth. They were showing ESPN News on my ESPN channel because of it.

My two regular TV's picked it up on SportsSouth, but the HD receivers could not pick it up on the regular or HD SportsSouth (or FSN) channels. It worked tonight though, on regular and HD. I'm confused, but as long as the games come on, I don't care.

Ever since moving to Tuscaloosa I've had nothing but problems with Comcast. The internet is unreliable and the most annoying thing of all is the loud static noises on most channels. Especially ESPN, I'm always watching highlights or the playoffs and as I speak it's doing it. Fustrating...congrats Porter. Confused

Make the switch.

Well I don't know how different the prices is, but we're paying about $70 for the digital in the living room and regular in my room. Will it be around the same price monthly? I know it should cost a pretty penny to get the actual dish and stuff?

I've had DirecTV for about 7 years and always loved it. I went with the DVR for the den last year and it works well. Be careful recording football games that often run over in time from what the guide lists.

The prices are pretty comparable to cable considering you get more channels, but you do pay more if you want HD. Dish is a little cheaper than DirecTV and the offer pretty much the same stuff minus some sports packages. They both offer rebate type deals on all the equipment.

I don't have any experience with comcast, but I do have Cox Cable here in FWB, FL. All in all, I love it. I have phone, cable, and internet trough them. I always get good customer service when I do have a problem.

Porter, when the Braves are blackout on MLB Extra Innings, it is because they are usually being shown on SportSouth or one of the other networks.

I do know the Braves and Phillies were being broadcast on MLB Extra Innings last night, so I didn't even try to find it on another station.
