During drive time last night I was listening to Dunaway and Brown, and they mentioned that the NCAA took over the NIT a couple of years back, and their philosophy for filling the field is to start with the small schools with good records, especially those who won their league but not the tournament, and to proceed from there. In bygone years an SEC team with a winning record was pretty much a cinch to get an NIT bid at least, but maybe not this time. I hope these guys get to keep playing. They aren't that pretty to watch, but they sure are playing hard.

CM Newton was on PFRN the other day. He is the chairman of the NIT. He said any regular season conference champion is garaunteed a NIT bid. Under the new NIT rules, he doubted very seriously if there were anything Alabama could do to make the NIT.
